The longstanding tradition to hold markets in Florence is deeply rooted
in the people's daily life. It was started more than a thousand years
ago, and the stalls have now become part of the city landscape, where
you can find the best deals and enjoy the friendly and witty Florentine
way of life.

Market of the "Porcellino"
At two steps from Ponte Vecchio and Palazzo Vecchio you will find
this very Fiorentine market, where you can buy the traditional coloured
paper, straw objects, snowy linen and hand made embroidery (stall
n 8), or hand-woven and embroidered towels (stall n 4). Don't miss
your good luck by rubbing the snout of the bronze wild boar that,
who knows why, is called 'porcellino' (pig in Italian) by the locals.
Over the years, the market has also taken an international flavour,
and you can also find crafts from all over the world. |
