June 24th is Saint John’s day, Florence’s patron saint. A pageant starts from Palazzo Vecchio to bring candles to the Saint. At night, the feast ends with a firework show in Piazzale Michelangelo

Ascension's Day

Every year, on Ascension’s day, a lively market is held in the park called ‘Le Cascine’, where you can buy crickets in colourful cages. In past years, the young men used to decorate their beloved’s doors and windows with flowers and to donate them a cricket in a cage.

THE ‘RIFICOLONA’ FEAST
The children’s feast takes place every year on September 7th. The children walk around the city centre carrying lanterns (called ‘rificolone’) on a stick.
